How do we stop the battle with anxiety?

I am talking from personal experience when I say I used to bury my head in the sand and hide from my problems and anxieties until I realised how necessary it was to take a closer look at them.

We should be facing them head-on if we ever want to be free of them, keeping in mind that they are a clear sign that there is an underlying problem that needs to be addressed or a change that needs to be made.

Why? I hear you asking, well look, life is full of little stresses and surprises so being able to understand your emotions, grow through the bull c#$p and come out the other side mentally stronger and able to cope with lives challenges without becoming overwhelmed I think is a starting point, right!?

Scientific studies have shown and proven that chronic stress is a big cause of physical illnesses and mental health issues are continually rising so it seems that our keep going, keep your head up and carry on mentality is not working anymore. In facing your anxieties and feeling your way through them you are ultimately setting yourself free. Allowing yourself the space to face the things that are bothering you and no longer working for you, brings about the opportunity to make positive and impactful changes to your life.

It doesn’t have to be a lonely journey though and it would benefit you to have some support during these times. Speak with friends and family members you can trust (trust being key), find a recommended counsellor, therapist or healer that will be happy to listen to you and assist you in a safe space.

As a mixed-race woman, single mother and businesswoman I am no stranger to stress and life challenges. The pressure we are put under, judgments made by ourselves or others, and past traumas all play a part in our mental stability. Whether you chose to keep the battle going or face your anxieties will determine your experience. Don’t get me wrong I know all about how painful it can be facing your suppressed emotions but sweeping our anxieties under the carpet as if they will disappear (we wish) is not beneficial to you at all.

Remember, if you have anxiety and are feeling overwhelmed,

  • Be kind to yourself

  • Get enough sleep

  • Eat a well-balanced diet

  • Do some form of exercise every day, and get out in the open as much as possible.

  • Let go of guilt and forgive because bitterness will eat you up from the inside.

  • Mindful breathing and meditation are extremely beneficial to you mentally and physically, doing this twice a day for 15-20 minutes impacts the hormones released into your bloodstream, lowers your heart rate, and strengthens the immune system

  • Take a break from T.V and social media every so often. Creating a sacred space where you can spend time, away from phones and television is extremely beneficial, allowing you to be present and undistracted.

  • Talking positively to and about yourself with I AM affirmations combined with mirror work is a powerful tool to change your negative mental patterns into positive ones

  • Cleanse your energy regularly, I cannot stress this enough but we are picking up others energies all of the time and these need to be cleansed away because they do and will have an effect on your energy

You can do this and you will grow through whatever you are currently going through and come out stronger, trust me I'm speaking from experience
